Who Are We?

The Arkansas Society of Medical Assistants (ASMA) is a constituent society of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). The mission of the AAMA is to enable medical assisting professionals to enhance and demonstrate the knowledge, skills and professionalism required by employers and patients; protect medical assistants' right to practice; and promote effective, efficient health care delivery through optimal use of the CMA (AAMA) credential. CMAs (certified medical assistants) are trained professionals for ambulatory care settings (physician offices), not acute care settings (hospitals), and have background information in both the administrative aspect of healthcare as well as the clinical aspect in that setting. For more details, see the Occupational Analysis of the Certified Medical Assistant.
